A woman in Dhemaji delivered a baby on a boat amidst the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.
On April 21st, 2020 a team of health workers were stopped by a few villagers citing an emergency. The emergency was that a 19-year-old pregnant woman named Silaboti Boro from Udaypur village of Mechaki Chapori in Dhemaji was being brought by her parents. The woman was being brought on a country boat moving towards the nearest mainland hospital.
NHM officials said that during the pandemic situation their health workers went beyond the mile to successfully conduct delivery of a healthy baby boy on a country boat.
The officials gave a big shout out to Medical Officers Dr Modhusmita Hazarika and ANM Mohima Boro for their quick decision as there was no time left before they could take the expecting mother to the nearest health centre. The delivery was done following all hygienic procedures.
The mother, as well as the newborn child, are completely healthy now and further medical attention is being given to them.
