Wear Helmet, Use Seat Belt: Guwahati Police Chief To His Men In Khaki

The Motor Vehicles Amendment Act was implemented in Assam on September 23rd, 2019


After several videos of policemen breaking traffic rules surfaced on social media, Guwahati Police Commissioner, Deepak Kumar has directed the men in uniforms to wear a helmet and use a seat belt while driving.

As per the new Motor Vehicles (MV) Amendment Act, which came into effect from September 1st, 2019, the traffic rule violators will now be paying heftier penalties. The new MV Act aims at stricter punishment for violating traffic regulations to bring down road accidents and improve the country’s road safety record.

As several citizens took to social media to post photographs of policemen violating traffic guidelines, the police chief instructed the Officer-in-charge of police stations falling under the jurisdiction of the Commisionarate to instruct their policemen about following the traffic rules.

With the implementation of new MV Act in Assam on September 23rd, 2019, many cases have been recorded where people and police personnel were fined for rash driving and not following traffic rules.
