We Were Not Protesting: Manas Robin Clarifies For Showing Up At LGBI Airport

A lot of people have misunderstood our protest and we want them to know the truth: Manas Robin

Assamese singer Manas Robin, who has been actively taking part in the anti-CAA movement in the state today clarified that they did not have any plans to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) at the LGBI airport.

The statements came after the singer along with seven others from the artistes’ fraternity took their resentments against the enacted CAA to the international airport amid the movements of the B-town celebrities and other invited dignitaries attending the Filmfare Awards.

The group holding several anti-CAA placards addressed to Bollywood actors like Madhuri Dixit, Akshay Kumar read a message–“We love you so much. Please help us to live with our language and culture by opposing CAA 2019 in Assam”.

The group was however detained by the police and were kept at the Azara PS. They were released late midnight.

“The Bollywood celebrities have seen the colourful Guwahati but they should also be aware of the current situation of Assam. A lot of people have misunderstood our protest and we want them to know the truth. Our protest is not against the Bengalis or Muslims. Our only motive is to protect the indigenous people of Assam guarding our language and culture, protecting our identity.” Manas Robin said while speaking to TIME8.

“We were not there to protest but we just wanted the support of our guests. But unfortunately, we were detained by the police despite not using any unconstitutional word.” He added.

The singer further informed that after questioning on their detainment, the police replied that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was imposed at the airport and accumulation of a group is not allowed.
