The villagers of Dhekial Adhlikuch under Khumtai constituency has “barred” the entry of BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia in his own constituency in protest against his recent statements on attacking anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters.

Khumtai MLA Saikia stirred up a hornet nest after he asked his partymen to retaliate against any attack on them by the anti-CAA protesters. “If someone burns your house, burn down their houses. If someone touches one of ours, target 10 of theirs,” he told a gathering in Chabua in Dibrugarh district.

The MLA said that the BJP workers have tolerated enough and now it’s time to act as they have the support of the people. The villagers also hanged banners and posters “warning” the MLA.

Addressing the gathering, Saikia had said that the leaders of the organisations protesting against the citizenship act have earned lakhs of rupees in the name of the protests.

Several organisations have demanded legal action against the MLA. The Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha, Sivasagar, also lodged an FIR with the Sivasagar Sadar Police against the MLA in the matter.
