UP On Edge: Death Toll Touches 16, Over 700 Anti-CAA Protesters Arrested

While the situation in Uttar Pradesh has continued to be grim over the anti-CAA protests that have taken a sharp turn in parts of the state, as many as 16 persons including an 8-year-old were reported dead with arrests of more than 700 protesters.

The police have informed that 124 FIRs have been lodged with the recovery of 405 shells of country-made pistols. A hundred others have been arrested for posting hate messages on social media with 63 FIRs.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier announced that those involved who resorted to damage the public/private properties during the violence will have to pay for it. CM Adityanath also informed that they have identified several faces through video footages.

Meanwhile, a four-member panel has been set up to assess the damage caused to public and private property. The panel is slated to identify those responsible for the damage and impose fine on them. If they fail to pay the fine their properties will be confiscated.

The said process is reported to complete within 30 days and the exercise will imply on all the violence-hit districts during the anti-CAA protests.
