    Union Minister Shekhawat Reviews Situation In Flood-Hit Assam

    Guwahati, July 16, 2019

    Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on July 16th, 2019 and also conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas and held a high-level meeting to review the situation in Assam. Later in the day, the Union Minister will also hold a review meeting with ministers and officials in Guwahati.

    Shekhawat also assured the Assam government that relief materials would be provided as requested. He was accompanied by State Minister Keshav Mahanta and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister of State Bhabesh Kalita along with other officials.

    The flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim as over 4,100 villages have been affected in 30 districts as of July 15th, 2019. Around 43 lakh people have been affected by monsoon mayhem.

    The Brahmaputra river crossed the danger mark on July 15th, 2019 taking the death toll to 15. The Central Water Commission said the water level is rising by 2-3 centimetres per hour.
