The Fatasil Ambari Police on Guwahati Wednesday apprehended two cops – Sravan Kumar Jha and his brother Sanjoy Jha – on charges of illegally transporting a huge amount of gold and cash.

Both of them were nabbed during a routine checking on the road.

Police said that said Sravan is a constable of the Government Railway Police at the Guwahati railway station and Sanjoy is a constable with the Panbazar Police Station traffic branch.

“We laid a trap based on inputs that a GRP  Personnel was carrying gold biscuits and a huge quantity of cash. Accordingly, the OC of Fatasil Ambari Police Station, the IC Traffic Fatasil, and set up a check naka to trap the GRP Personnel,” said an official.

“We managed to trap the GRP personnel at the naka. He was transported by his brother who is attached to the traffic department at Pan Bazar Police Station. The brother was in his traffic police’ s uniform and was carrying him to avoid naka checking,” the official added.

A case has been registered against them. Sarvan was previously arrested for allegedly stealing gold from a train passenger at the Guwahati Railway Station.
