    Three Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Police In Guwahati

    Guwahati, July 30, 2019

    The city police arrested three people on charge of allegedly assaulting on-duty police personnel in the wee hours of July 30th, 2019 from near the Chandmari flyover.

    The accused are Sanjib Kumar Rai, 26, of Silpukhuri, Asif Ahmed and his father Taizuddin Ahmed, 59, of Piyoli Phukan Nagar in the city.

    As per information, Sanjib, Asif and a girl were consuming alcohol in a Maruti ASTAR car bearing registration number AS 01 BB 8058 near the entrance to the All India Radio Centre at Chandmari.

    Later, when a police team from Chandmari Police Station on being informed by the locals reached the spot, the girl fled the spot and Sanjib and Asif attacked the police team physically. Both the accused were picked up to the police station and arrested.

    Taizuddin Ahmed reached the police station with a group of people and created chaos which resulted in lathi charge and arrest of Ahmed.

    A case (No 897) under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 120B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy), 147 (Punishment for rioting), 152 (Assaulting or obstructing public servant when suppressing riot, etc), 294 (Obscene acts and songs) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused in the Chandmari Police Station.
