Thousands of agitators hit the streets of the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar with placards and slogans demanding justice for a rape survivor and immediate suspension of rape accused Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) legislator Goruk Pordung.
The BJP legislator from Bameng constituency in East Kameng district was accused of raping a lady doctor inside a hotel on October 12th, 2019. An FIR was subsequently registered against Pordung at the women police station. He was granted interim-bail thereafter.
The protesters shouting slogans for justice claimed that the MLA should be served with punishment.
“We demand justice, he should be suspended from his position. I do not understand why is he getting VIP treatment” said victim’s husband.
“We have a hearing at the Supreme Court tomorrow. I hope justice is served”, he added.
Meanwhile, the MLA has dismissed all the rape allegations claiming it to be “politically motivated” with an intention to tarnish his image.
