    This IPS Officer Donates One-Month Salary For Assam Flood Relief

    Anand Mishra, Superintendent of Police, Charaideo, Assam has donated his one-month salary to aid relief efforts in the state, which in the throes of a devastating flood. Mishra deposited the amount to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on July 25th, 2019.

    The Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer also made an appeal to all the individuals to come forward with assistance and stand with the flood-hit victims.

    “I have contributed my one-month salary to aid the relief and rehabilitation efforts undertaken by our state government for the flood-affected people. I would encourage all to come forward and contribute in their own ways as much as they can,” said Mishra while speaking to TIME8.

    Incessant rains have worsened flooding, displacing over millions of people in Assam. As on July 24th, 2019, the death toll in Assam due to flood has risen to 75. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s daily flood bulletin, over 34 lakh people and around 3,000 villages have been hit by the monsoon mayhem.

    The flood situation has further worsened in Lower Assam following the release of excess waters from the Kuricchu Hydropower Plant reservoirs in the Kuricchu river in Bhutan. A red alert has been sounded in districts of Barpeta, Chirang, Baksa and Bongaigaon.

    It may be mentioned that ‘Dhing Express’ Hima Das has donated half of her monthly salary to aid relief efforts in her home state. Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in Guwahati, Padmapani Bora also donated ten days of his monthly salary to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

    Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has pledged to donate Rs 1 crore each to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Kaziranga National Park to help with the rescue and rehabilitation of the flood-hit victims.

    Megastar Amitabh Bachchan also joined the celebrities who have come forward to help people affected by Assam floods by donating Rs 51 lakh to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal took to Twitter to thank Bachchan for his contribution.
