
The rebel group United Liberation Front of Assam, Independent, ULFA-I is suspected to be behind the sensational kidnapping of an employee of the Shankar Tea Estate in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on September 11th, 2019.
According to the locals and eye witnesses four masked men carrying sophisticated weapons in camouflage uniform rushed into the tea garden yesterday at around 6:30 pm asking for the chief manager of the tea estate. After the armed med could not located the chief, Gauranga Sundar Dev was picked up at gun point form the tea estate factory.
Dev was employed as the head fitter at the tea garden located near Talap area under Saikhowa Tehsil of the district.
Post the incident the district police under the supervision of Tinsukia SP Siladitya Chetia upped vigil across the district and jointly launched an operation with the Indian Army. The team is also trying to identify the masked men going through the CCTV cameras installed at the tea estate factory.
Meanwhile, the security forces have received information of the movement of a four member team of militants in the area under the guidance of hardcore ULFA-I leader Rupam Asom.
