A one-day special session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is likely to begin on a stormy note as the opposition is all set to bring up the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA).
The session is slated to begin with Governor Jagdish Mukhi’s address followed by motion of thanks. After his speech, the House will hold discussions on the ratification of extension of the reservation for SC/ST status.
Meanwhile the opposition Congress said it will move a resolution to ensure that the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not implemented in the state.
Earlier on January 3rd, 2020, former three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had said that the Congress will move a resolution in the special session demanding implementation of Assam Accord in letter and spirit and to ensure that the act is not implemented in the state.
After massive protests broke out in the state over amendment of CAA the opposition parties last year had petitioned the Assembly Speaker to call for a special session of the Assembly.
