Sonowal, Himanta Pay Homage To Mahatma Gandhi On His 72nd Death Anniversary

Tributes have already started pouring in from all quarters


Along with the rest of the country, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other state politicos paid rich tributes to the father of the nation on his 72nd Death Anniversary.

January 30 is observed as the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi. There are five days declared as Martyrs’ Day and are named in honour of those who are recognised as martyrs for the nation and January 30 is observed in the national level. The date was chosen as it marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, by Nathuram Godse.

On this day President of India, Vice President, Prime Minister and Defence Minister along with other dignitaries come together at Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi at Rajghat and pay homage to Gandhi in remembrance of his contributions for India’s freedom struggle.

President Ram Nath Kovind paid homage to Gandhi on Martyr’s day through a long letter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter handle to pay rich tributes to Gandhi for all his immense contributions to the country.

Union Minister Smriti Irani wrote that she salutes to all those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation and that “the courage and bravery of the martyrs will always be remembered.”
