Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged universities in the state to incorporate the National Service Scheme (NSS) in their curriculum to inculcate the sense of national service and encourage participation in national reconstruction.
Sonowal chaired a meeting of State Level Advisory Committee of NSS at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati on November 26th, 2019. He said that exposure to the ethos of NSS will enable the students from college and university days to inculcate social responsibility in them. He urged the varsities to include the NSS in the curriculum as elective, core or skill-based courses.
The Cheif Minister further directed officials to conduct State Level NSS programmes in the Upper Assam, Lower Assam and Barak Valley regions. Officials were also asked to organise street plays in villages by NSS volunteers sensitising people on drug abuse, superstition and social evils.
