    Sikkim CM Demands Centre 100 Per Cent Subsidy On Mini Electric Buses

    Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Arjun Ram Meghwal assures of taking the matter earnestly

    The Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on August 27th, 2019, demanded the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government to provide the mini electric buses on 100 per cent subsidy.

    “The cost of the vehicle and its expenditure cost are very high and not suitable for hilly region so we request the Centre Government for subsidy on busses and its operational cost,” Tamang said after a meeting with the Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Arjun Ram Meghwal. Besides, he said that Meghwal has assured to provide the mini electric buses.

    The CM also urged the minister to consider establishing ancillary units of heavy machinery for the industries to be established in West Sikkim. “This will definitely give a fillip in the industrialization in the state and also solve the problem of unemployment,” he said while urging Meghwal to take up the matter earnestly in his ministry.

    Meghwal assured that he would advocate relaxation in criteria for Sikkim to obtain EVs while adding that two such demo electric vehicles are being provided one to the Governor and another one to the Chief Minister.

    Meghwal also informed that his Ministry under Fame India Scheme has started National Electricity Mobility Mission Plan 2020, a National Mission document, is providing the vision and road map for faster adaptation of EV and their manufacturing within the country. “The ministry has given more than 6,000 units of Electric vehicles to 64 cities across the country,” he said.
