The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Guwahati, on December 26th, 2019, sent the Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha to two-day Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody. Earlier the day, he was produced at the court in Guwahati.
The court had rejected the plea made by the CID for five-day custody. He will be produced in the court on December 28th, 2019 again.
Earlier the day, a CID team of the Assam Police conducted a raid at the residence of Chaliha at Phukan Nagar in Upper Assam’s Sivasagar district. The officials interrogated his family members also during the raid conducted at 6:45 am. The mobile handset of Rakajyoti Chaliha, Shrinkhal ‘s mother, was seized by the officials.
Chaliha was arrested in Dibrugarh on December 23rd, 2019 and brought to Guwahati. Several leaders of the Lachit Sena were taken into custody by the police after an anti-CAA rally at Borboruah in Dibrugarh.
A case (No 30/2019) against under Sections 120(B), 120(A), 121, 121(A), 122, 123, 143, 147, 148, 150, 152, 153, 153(A), 326, 333 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Shrinkhal.
