Hours after the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) swept the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections by winning 63 seats in the 70-member assembly, the party said that shots were fired at AAP MLA Naresh Yadav and volunteers while they were returning from a temple visit.
An AAP volunteer died on the spot and another sustained injuries after unidentified miscreants allegedly fired shots at Mehrauli MLA’s convoy while they were reportedly passing through Kishangarh area.
Reacting to the incident Yadav said it is “unfortunate”. He added that around 4 rounds were fired and sought for police inquiry to identify the assailant. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Mann(45).
Confirming the incident AAP took to its Twitter and wrote, “Shots fired at AAP MLA MLA_NareshYadav and the volunteers accompanying him while they were on way back from temple. At least one volunteer has passed away due to bullet wounds. Another is injured.”.
Another person who sustained gunshot injury has been rushed to a nearby hospital.
An FIR has been registered at Kishangarh police station and further investigations are underway.
