In a tragic incident, a vessel carrying over 30 passengers tilted and capsized within minutes while crossing the heart of the Jiya Bharali river in the afternoon hours of October 17th, 2019. Several passengers including women and children have been reportedly feared dead till the filing of this news.
As per initial reports, the boat was on its way towards Panch-Mile from Bihiya Chapori gaon along the Gabharu river flowing west of Tezpur when the incident took place.
The locals and boatmen immediately came up for rescue and the lives of two women were saved. Four children who were on board are reported missing.
Few passengers swam towards the shallow end of the river and were rescued by a boat.
