The videos soon went viral on social media with netizens slamming actress Yami Gautam for disrespecting the culture and tradition of Assam

Bollywood actress Yami Gautam, who is in Assam to flag-off a marathon event in Guwahati, had to face the wrath of netizens for apparently “insulting the Assamese gamosa‘.

Yami received a warm welcome at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati’s Borjhar upon her arrival on the noon of March 1st, 2020. A horde of fans gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of the Vicky Donor actress.

She was dressed in black-coloured tracks, shawl, mouth mask and shades. As soon as a fan came towards the actress with a gamosa, she pushed him away. The videos soon went viral on social media with netizens slamming her for disrespecting the culture and tradition of Assam.

Facing backlash, the Bala actress took to the microblogging site and said that she reacted in self-defence as she was uncomfortable with the man coming too close to her. The actress also mentioned that she loves the culture of Assam and its people.

“As a woman, if I am uncomfortable with anyone getting too close to me, I or any other girl has every right to express it. I Dint’ intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments but it’s very important to voice out a behavior, inappropriate in any manner,” Yami wrote on Twitter.

The Uri actress further mentioned that she has visited Assam thrice and will keep visiting the “beautiful state” in the near future. She attended the Filmfare Awards event in Guwahati on February 15th, 2020.
