
Following the arrest of three suspected ISIS operatives in Western Assam’s Goalpara district, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Debaraj Upadhaya, on November 26th, 2019, said that the intelligence cell of the Assam Police has been continuously keeping its vigil across the city.
“The intelligence cell of the Assam police has been continuously keeping vigil as far as security is concerned in the city. The central agencies are also examining everything minutely,” Upadhaya said
The joint CP also informed that the city police had recently launched a multi-purpose squad to deal with any attempts by miscreants.
Besides, talking about the security, Upadhaya said, “The railway stations, airport, bus stand and other busy places are under strict observation.” He further appealed the people to cooperate with the police in the matter.
A special team of the Delhi police with the help of the Goalpara police arrested three suspected ISIS operatives from the district. The accused had planned terror attacks at a Raas festival in Dudhnoi and thereafter in the national capital, police sources said.
The accused were identified as Luit Zameel Zaman, Ranjeet Islam and Mukadir Islam. They were later produced in the court and have been sent to 10-days Assam police remand.
