    Rima Das’ ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ To Open 2019 Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne

    National Award winning filmmaker Rima Das’ most recent Assamese-language film Bulbul Can Sing has been announced as the opening night film for the 2019 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) which will kickstart on August 8th, 2019 in Victoria, Australia.

    Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is the official chief guest at the festival which will conclude on August 17th, 2019.

    The film revolves around Bulbul, a teenage school going girl, growing up in a rural setting in Assam, falls in love. The name Bulbul, which means ‘Nightingale’, reflects her religious father’s long-cherished desire for his daughter to become a singer.

    While she is on the verge of discovering her teen life, a tragedy strikes with her best friend. Bulbul, free-spirited, rebellious and stubborn, begins to question herself and her love life.

    The film is set in Assam like her previous films and the cast of the movie includes Pakija Begam, Arnali Das, Manoranjan Das, Bonita Thakuriya and Manabendra Das. The role of Bulbul is played by Arnali.

    It may be mentioned that Rima’s Village Rockstars was India’s official entry for the 91st Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Village Rockstars won three National Awards including Best Feature Film and Best Editing. In addition, Bhanita Das won the Best Child Artiste National Award.
