A women group holding posters and shouting slogans held a sit-in demonstration demanding immediate arrest of retired police personnel in Guwahati.
The protesters alleged that the accused Dalim Bhuyan not just outraged the modesty of a woman but also publicly harassed her. They blamed the administration for turning a deaf ear to the issue and not taking stringent measures against the man despite registering a police complaint.
Holding photographs of the official the women raised slogans like “We want justice”, “Arrest the culprit” and so on.
Alleging police high handedness, the protesters said, “He is always involved in fights with the locals here in Basistha’s Lotakota. Similarly last Wednesday he entered into an argument with a woman over a meagre subject and assaulted her in public leaving bruises all over her body. This is not acceptable” a woman said.
“The police should arrest him immediately. We want justice” another protester added.
A case no 226/2020 under sections 447/294/354/506 of the IPC has been registered at Basistha police station.
