Rasta Jaldi Banao: Assam Congress Leader Croons A Song For Nitin Gadkari, NHAI

    Guwahati, June 25, 2019

Where words fail, music speaks – may sound cliche, but it’s true. At least for singer, satirist and politician Daniel Langthasa. The Congress member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council in Assam, who calls himself Mr India, has now taken up the issue of the dilapidated condition of the 25-km stretch on National Highway 54 which falls between Jatinga and Harangajo in his new satire-song.

The 1-minute, 27-second song titled ‘#RoadBanaoNHAI’ sung by Langthasa has garnered over 10,000 views on his Facebook timeline. The song is addressed to Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and the National Highways Authority of India. In the video, Langthasa is seen wearing the funky yellow eye-gear.

“Nitin Gadkari, kabhi aao leke gaadi. Naam maha sadak, dekhne me hai narak……. O Bada Babu rasta jaldi banao (Nitin Gadkari, come once in a car and see this road. Named express highway, but it looks like hell…… Minister construct the road fast),” goes the song, which Langthasa posted on Facebook on June 14th, 2019.

Langthasa said that he has been writing songs after he saw people taking to the streets to protest about the condition of the road and he thought it is the right time to bring the issue in the notice of the NHAI and the Union Minister.

The song also speaks how when people travel through the muddy and full of pothole road it gives body aches and that some even vomit after travelling on the road. He also warns the NHAI at the end of the song by singing, “Theek nahi hoga lekin agar deri karega toh” (The situation could deteriorate if the work gets further delayed).

Soon after the song was released online on June 18th, 2019, the NHAI published a fresh tender for the completion of the Jatinga-Harangajao road. The project worth nearly Rs 50 crore is to be completed within 12 months.
