The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a massive protest here on August 26th, 2019 against the construction of the 2,000-MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited.
The AJYCP staged protest infront of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon. The protesters also demeaned the Assam government to ensure a permanent solution to the flood problems in the state.
It may be mentioned that the NHPC is all set to resume the construction of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project in Gerukamukh in Dhemaji district of Assam. In this regard, the NHPC on August 23rd, 2019, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Assam government for implementation of the project.
