Profiteer Slur On Guwahati’s Gate Hospital

These inhumane practices should be stopped in hospitals: Patient's family

A Nagaon family has slammed the Gate hospital in Guwahati’s Mathgharia for ‘cheating’ on its patients and charging them with exorbitant bills.

According to reports, a critically injured patient named Lokeshwar Hazarika was referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on January 4th, 2020. He was undergoing treatment at Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital in Nagaon district. Later, the family was informed that Hazarika was admitted at Gate Hospital for his treatment.

“At first we were not informed that our father has been admitted at a private hospital. A bill of Rs 48,000 was charged for a day to release the patient that excludes the medicine. This is sheer loot as he had bruises all over his body and there was no medication. Also, his hands and legs were bandaged with cardboards,” the patient’s daughter said.

The patient’s wife alleged that the ambulance driver was tipped to drop them in the hospital and slammed the authorities for running a racketeer.

“These inhumane practices should be stopped in hospitals. The poor always bear the brunt of other’s mischiefs. Till date, we have borne Rs 80,000 expenses without any proper treatment”. said the wife.
