Former Assam Chief Minister and veteran Asom Gana Parishad leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on August 31st, 2019 praised state coordinator for National Register of Citizens (NRC) Prateek Hajela for his efforts to publish the final citizens’ list.
Mahanta addressing a presser here said, “It’s a historic day for Assam and I thank the Supreme Court of India for publishing the final list of NRC as promised. Averting several roadblocks, Hajela came up with the final list and he must be appreciated for his untiring efforts.”
The citizen’s list was published at 10 am on August 31st, 2019. A total of 3.11 crore people made it to the final list leaving out 19,06,657 persons including those who did not submit claims.
Mahanta also expressed his happiness with the publication of the final list of NRC and said that as the Supreme Court was monitoring it closely, there will be no mistakes. “If it is published with errors then the state government should be blamed for it,” said Mahanta.
He also appealed the incumbent state government to come up with concrete steps to weed out illegal migrants that have settled in the state.
From August 31st, 2019, onwards the hard copies of the Supplementary List of inclusions will be available for public view at NRC Seva Kendras (NSK), offices of the Deputy Commissioner and offices of the Circle Officer during office hours.
The status of both inclusion and exclusion can be viewed online on the NRC website (www.nrcassam.nic.in). Any person who is not satisfied with the outcome of the claims and objections can file an appeal before the Foreigners Tribunals, informed Hajela.
