At least 12 persons, labourers including two children sustained serious injuries after a powerful blast took place at a firecrackers’ manufacturing factory in Barpeta district on October 21st, 2019.
The injured were immediately admitted to the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital. The condition of two injured women, one child is said to be in critical condition.
As per reports, the blast led to a massive break out of a fire at the factory of businessman Deep Pathak while the labourers were busy preparing crackers ahead of the Diwali festivities.
Fire-fighters immediately responded to the blaze and controlled the escalation of the fire. Post the incident a panic gripped in the area as just a few meters near to the blast, two more firecrackers factory are housed in the area.
It may be mentioned that the fireworks industry of Barpeta is about 130 years old. The traditionally made Barpeta fireworks are best known for its quality as compared to other Chinese firecrackers.
