Hours after the Supermom Court of India gave a clean chit to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on Rafale deal, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on November 14th, 2019, said that the politics to subvert India’s defence capabilities fall flat with the verdict.
“The SC today confirmed what the nation already knew. The verdict is another victory of the government. Politics to subvert India’s defence capabilities falls flat with the verdict,” Sonowal said.
Meanwhile, the state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Gang of perennial rumour mongers gets a rude shock from the Supreme Court as all petitions against Rafale deal filed by them are dismissed. The fishing expedition of Arun Shourie, Yashwant Sinha and Prashant Bhushan go topsy-turvy.”
The top court today gave clean chit for the second time to the Narendra Modi-led government on the purchase of 36 fully loaded Rafale fighter jets from French company Dassault Aviation, rejecting the plea for registration of an FIR by the CBI for alleged commission of the cognisable offence in the deal.
The SC dismissed the pleas seeking review of the December 14, 2018 verdict in which it had said that there was no occasion to doubt the decision-making process in the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets.
