Police Blank Fire In Rangapara Following Lockdown Violation By Locals

The locals claimed that the police should have informed the garden administration if there were any issues related to the lock downviolation

A team of police in Rangapara had to resort to blank firing in a tea garden in Rangapara following a “clash” with the local tea garden labourers as there was an alleged lockdown violation in the area.

A source said that during the routine patrolling in the garden area, the police noticed that few locals in the area were not maintaining the norms of the lockdown as several people had come out in groups. The police following this initiated a lathi charge on the people in which for persons were reported to be injured.

This, however, triggered retaliation from the locals who then attacked the police team injuring one police personnel, namely Abdul Zaman seriously. To control the situation, the police had to blank fire.

However, the police are yet to make an official statement on the issue.

The locals of the area following the incident alleged that the police had assaulted them “without any reason”. They claimed that four locals were injured in the clash too.

One of them said that the police should now enter the garden areas and “harass” the locals as the gardens run with a different set of laws.

“If there are any issues, it should have been addressed to the garden administration”, he added.
