Nagaland governor and former interlocutor for the Naga peace talks, RN Ravi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to conclude the Naga peace process within three months time. He informed the same while addressing the public at the grand civic reception organized in honour of the 19th Governor of Nagaland at the NBCC Convention Center, Kohima on August 16th, 2019.
Ravi mentioned that the Prime Minister had expressed the need to conclude the Naga peace talks within that stipulated time even before his appointment as the Nagaland Governor to which he replied in an affirmative that the three-month time was enough as they had been negotiating for the last 22 years.
The Nagaland Governor further added that in the last five years they have been able to resolve “substantive” issues related to the Naga insurgency and that they are working out for a dignified solution that suits for the best of people leading to a final settlement to the Naga issue.
It may be mentioned that the former intelligence bureau officer was sworn in as the Nagaland Governor on August 1st, 2019. He took his administrative oath at the Raj Bhavan in presence of the acting Chief Justice Gauhati High Court, Arup Kumar Goswami, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and other top bureaucrats.
Expressing hope to successfully conclude the Naga peace talks, Ravi said the peace process should come to a conclusion keeping in view of the prevailing status quo which at present is intolerable for the Naga people. Due to which the Nagas have been bearing the brunt of multiple taxations, fear of the gun, dreams of Naga youths choked and suffocated.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio thanking the civil societies for attending the civic reception in honour of the Governor of Nagaland, described Ravi as “no stranger to the Naga people” as his name has been symbolic for the Nagaland resolving the long pending Naga political issue. He also added that “Ravi is a man who had extensively studied the history and political affairs of the naga society and his immense contributions led to the signing of the framework agreement,”.
