Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on April 3rd, 2020 via a video message as India enters its 10th day of lockdown in order to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) amid a global crisis.

This is the fourth time Modi addressed the people on coronavirus in the past two weeks. In his address, Modi urged the nation to switch off all lights for nine minutes and light up candles, lamps or cellphone flashlights on April 5th, 2020.

“I request all of of you to switch off all the lights of your house on April 5th, 2020 at 9 PM for 9 minutes, and just light a candle, diya, or mobile’s flashlight, to mark our fight against coronavirus,” Modi said in his address.

On April 2nd, 2020, the Prime Minister held a meeting with Chief Ministers on the COVID-19 outbreak via video-conferencing. The number of coronavirus cases crossed 2,000 mark in the country while the death toll rose to 53.
