A special court of Pakistan announced death penalty to former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf in the long-pending high treason case, as per media reports.

A three-member bench of the court headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth found Musharraf guilty in the treason case that imposed an emergency in 2007.

The former leader ruled Pakistan from 1999 to 2008. He has been living in Dubai since 2016 seeking medical assistance. The previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government led by Nawaz Sharif had filed the treason case against the former army chief in 2013. The case had been pending since December 2013.

The case had led to the confinement of a number of superior court judges in their houses and sacking of over 100 judges.
