Director-General of Police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta on Wednesday stated that only vehicles with permit will be allowed to ply on roads during the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from now onwards and people violating the norms will have to face legal issues.
Speaking to the media, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta said that from now onwards the lockdown will be more strict and no citizen will be allowed to come out on private vehicles without any permission from the authorities. Along with this, all vehicles engaged in any sort of essential services have been asked to get an authorization letter.
He, however, clarified that no one will be allowed to roam freely without any “cause” even if they have passes or authorization.
He added that the police will ensure strict norms till April 20th, 2020 and after that relaxations may be made following on the condition of the state.
He further added that the police have had a discussion with the transport department and have asked them to deployed a small number of taxis or cabs so that in case of emergency, the people can hire them, preventing them from taking out their own vehicles.
In case of medical emergencies for senior citizens, a helpline number will also be announced. Senior citizens can avail all sort of help from the police through this helpline.
