
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned the former general secretary of the Cotton University Students’ Union Pranjal Kalita for his alleged involvement with Maoists. Kalita, who is also the Assistant General Secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti, has been vocal against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act.
NIA asked him to be present at its office located at Sonapur at 11 am on February 6th, 2020 for questioning.
It may be mentioned that a court on January 30th, 2020, sent SMSS leader Manas Konwar to 14-day judicial custody for his alleged involvement with Maoists. A case (No 13/2020) under sections 120B, 124A, 153A and 153B was registered against the leader.
Earlier, the NIA arrested KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi, leaders Bitu Sonowal and Dharya Konwar.
