Newborn Kidnapped From Barpeta Rescued In Hajo: What Happened Behind The Scenes

The newborn baby girl was sleeping with her mother when she was kidnapped by their neighbour


In a commendable rescue operation carried out by the Barpeta Police along with Hajo police, the team united a 15-day-old newborn baby with its parents on September 15th, 2019.

The newborn baby girl was sleeping with her mother at their residence located in Bahmura area in Barpeta district of Assam when she was kidnapped by their neighbour identified as Hasanur Ali. The incident took place on the night of September 13th, 2019.

Soon after the incident, the parents filed a missing complaint with the Barpeta Police who swung into action and chalked out a plan to safely rescue the newborn baby. Once the plan was put into action, the police got a tip-off that the kidnapper along with a driver identified as Imam Ali was planning to sell the baby to a couple in Hajo, Kamrup district of Assam.

Wasting no time, the Barpeta Police contacted their counterpart in Hajo. The rescue operation team members were spread across the town to nab the culprits. After, a massive search operation that went on overnight, the police nabbed Ali from Khupanikuchi area.

Speaking to media persons, Pankaj Kakati, Additional Superintendent of Police, Barpeta said, “Hasanur and Imam had planned to sell the newborn baby to a couple in Hajo’s Khupanikuchi for a sum of Rs 30,000. The couple identified as Abibur Haque and Nurjahan Parbin was planning to again sell the baby in Shillong, Meghalaya. The duo has also been arrested.”

“Imam’s arrest helped us to connect the dots in the kidnapping case. The baby is doing fine and is under the care of her mother. Assam Police follows the mantra ‘swift action’,” Kakati added.

The Barpeta Police are on the lookout for the mastermind of the kidnapping case. “We are interrogating the arrested persons. We are hopeful that all the persons connected with the kidnapping of the baby will be arrested soon,” said Kakati.
