The situation in Jaffrabad-Maujpur region in Northeast Delhi continued to be tensed as the death toll rose to 13 including a policeman, with reports of fresh incidents of stone-pelting and arson coming in from Maujpur, Babarpur and Shivpuri areas on February 25th, 2020.
The clashes between pro- and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters continued for a third consecutive day, resulting in over 100 people injured. A total of 11 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence.
The administration imposed section 144 in the region. Delhi Minorities Commission appeals to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal for the imposition of curfew in violence-affected areas. According to reports, the district administration has sealed three borders adjoining Northeast Delhi and shut down bars and pubs in Ghaziabad.
The Union Home Ministry ruled out calling the army, saying adequate central forces and police are on the ground, said government sources. Over 6,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed along the stretch. Police resorted to using tear gas shells in Chand Bagh to control the clashes today evening.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to postpone Class 10 and Class 12 exams in Northeast Delhi district.
- BJP MP Gautam Gambhir hit out at party colleague Kapil Mishra’s provocative speech on February 23rd, 2020, a day before the violence broke out in Delhi over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act. “His speech is not acceptable,” he said.
- The violence erupted hours after Mishra had allegedly openly threatened to “hit the streets” and “not remain peaceful” in front of a senior cop giving him a three-day ultimatum to wind up the protests in Northeast Delhi.
- The Delhi police appealed the people of Delhi to cooperate in peace and harmony in the city.
- Congress appeals people to maintain communal harmony and thwart all attempts of forces dividing the country on the basis of religion: Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.
- A mosque in Ashok Nagar was allegedly set on fire late on Tuesday afternoon. A mob shouting “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hinduon ka Hindustan” paraded around the burning mosque, and a Hanuman flag was placed on the minaret of the masjid. However, Aslam Khan, the deputy commissioner of police of North West Delhi said that no mosque in the area was burnt, contrary to reports, which he described as fake news.
