An award-winning playwright from Assam, Rajdweep is all set to make his first debut as a screenwriter in the Bollywood. He took to Facebook on October 21st, 2019 to share the good news.
Rajdweep Pradip Dey, popularly known as Rajdweep hails from Dhing in Assam’s Nagaon district. He is also a lyricist and was awarded by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for his script Ishqlogy at Cinestaan India’s Storyteller’s Script Contest (First Edition) in 2018. Prior to this, he was awarded Assam State Film Award for Best Lyricist for the film Dooronir Nirola Poja (2017).
“I am very happy to be the first screenwriter from Assam to debut in Bollywood. What is more satisfying for me is that the plot of the story is based on one of the issues of Assam. Since I have signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement, I cannot reveal anything beyond this as of now,” an elated Rajdweep said while speaking to Time8.
As a screen-writer, Rajdweep’s first film was Khel-the Game (2015) and it had been widely accepted by movie lovers. His film Rum Vodka Whisky was released across Assam.
Rajdweep made his Bollywood debut in the Konkona Sen Sharma directed film A Death in the Gunj (2016) as a lyricist. His song Jiri Jiri was appreciated widely and was the first full-length Assamese song in any Bollywood film.
He also wrote a Bihu song for Anurag Basu’s Ranbir-Katrina starrer film Jagga Jasoos titled Lahe Lahe. He also penned the widely accepted song called Memories with Papon and Nucleya for MTV Dewarist show. In addition to that, he has contributed a lot to Assam’s mobile theatre industry as he wrote many full length plays.
