Social media held the police to arrest three terrorist organisation ISIS-inspired men from Goalpara and avert a ‘terror strike’ in the national Capital and Assam.

Speaking to media persons in Guwahati on November 26th, 2019, Assam ADGP Assam Mukesh Agarwal said, “The arrested men were active on social media and it helped us to connect the links.”

Ranjeet Ali (24), Mukadir Islam (22) and Luit Zameel Zaman (24), all residents of Goalpara, were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell after a joint operation with the Assam Police.

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), similar to the IED used in Ujjain train blast last year, baton sword, timer and IED components were recovered from the possession of the accused.

“They have been sent to 12-day Assam Police remand. The arrested persons are being interrogated,” Agarwal added.

The trio appeared to be inspired by Bangladesh Module of ISIS and were also intending to carry out lone-wolf attacks besides bomb blasts, Delhi Police Special Cell’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha told media persons.

“Further information was received that this group had already assembled a few IEDs and they were planning to detonate these IEDs in the local ‘Raas-mela’ of Assam State, within a few days,” said the DCP.

Acting on the inputs, a Delhi police team was dispatched for the Assam. On November 24, a trap was laid near Madhuban Lodge in Goalpara by a joint team of Delhi police and Goalpara Police.

The arrested people were reportedly planning a terror attack on Raas Mahotsav in Dudhnoi, a taluk in Goalpara district, and replicate the same in Delhi in areas with heavy footfall.
