For the very first time, Assam is likely to get the chance to experience the Indian Premier League (IPL). If everything goes according to the plan, Rajasthan Royals is likely to play three of its IPL fixtures at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium officially known as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Usually, the Rajasthan Royals play their home games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan. As per media reports, the franchise had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow playing few matches in Guwahati.

The proposal reportedly has been accepted by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators, which overlooked the administration of the BCCI. An official confirmation on the matter is yet to be made public.

The franchise has an Assam connection as Guwahati boy Riyan Parag plays for Rajasthan Royals. Earlier this year, the franchise’s chief operating officer, Jake Lush McCrum had visited the Barsapara stadium along with Riyan, to inspect the stadium. He also held a discussion with the Assam Cricket Association officials.

Riyan is the youngest player to score a half-century in the history of IPL. The all-rounder from Assam played seven games for Rajasthan in his maiden IPL this year and impressed all and sundry with his gutsy knock against a top-quality bowling attack.

The players’ auction for this season, IPL 13, is scheduled to be held on December 19th, 2019.
