
Sikkim saw the first snowfall of the season on December 3rd, 2019 giving the tourists to the Himalayan state reason to cheer.
Lachen in North Sikkim received heavy snowfall today. Snowfall in Sikkim usually takes place in January. The first accumulating snowfall of the season occurred over portions of Lachen village in North Sikkim on the evening of December 2nd, 2019.
Winter in Lachen lasts till February. The temperature during this time in Lachen ranges from 5 degrees Celsius to 15 degree Celsius. The snow-clad Himalayas peaks are a majestic sight to watch.
Every year, heavy snowfall is recorded in upper reaches of Sikkim like Lachen and Lachung in North, at Ravangla in South and in Hanuman Tonk region in East Sikkim.
As per Pipon (Village Head) of Lachen, Kuntub Lachenpa under Lachen Dzumsa informed that parts of Gurdongmar and Thangu village witnessed accumulating snowfall. Due to the brief duration and relatively low intensity of the snow, accumulated in grassy areas only.
