Assam CM To Meet PM Modi During His 3-Day Delhi Visit

The expansion of Sarbananda Sonowal’s ministry is likely to figure in the discussions

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal left for New Delhi on November 5th, 2019 for a three-day visit. He is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss a host of state-specific issues of crucial importance during his visit.

As per reports, the expansion of Sonowal’s ministry is likely to figure in the discussions. It may be mentioned that his Delhi visit comes amidst uproar over privatization move of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) and renewed agitation over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill and big dams in the state.

Sonowal is also likely to take up discussion over the Naga peace pact and the progress of talks with ULFA, NDFB and other rebel outfits in Assam.

The proposed privatization of the BPCL, of which Numaligarh Refinery Limited is a part, has triggered massive protests in the State.  On the other hand, All Assam Students’ Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad and others have started agitation programmes demanding immediate withdrawal of the Bill.
