‘Mentally Unstable’ Man Attacked On Suspicion Of Child Lifter In Bijni

The Panbari police who were intimated about the incident rescued the victim

An angry mob brutally attacked a mentally-challenged person suspecting him to be a child-lifter. The incident took place at Silikhaguri of Bijni in Assam’s Chirang district on November 3rd, 2019.

The victim identified as Dhruba Baishya is a resident of Kuslaiguri.

As per reports, Baishya had visited the Silikhaguri Durga temple on Sunday morning. After offering prayers at the temple Baishya was taking a stroll at the temple premises when he spotted a kid playing alone. His fondness for small kids turned into a curse after he tried to cajole the 4-year-old.

The fear-stricken father who spotted a stranger approaching his child, the former raised an alarm and labeling Baishya as a child-lifter cried out for help. Within seconds several people gathered at the spot attacked Baishya and handed the kid to the father’s hand.

A police team from Panbari PS who were intimated about the incident reached the spot and rescued the victim. Later, a Muslim lady who knew Baishya alerted the crowd that he is a victim.
