An incident of child marriage was foiled with the timely intervention of Lanka Childline officials on October 15th, 2019. The 15-year-old victim was rescued from the Lankeshwari temple.
Acting on a tip-off, the Childline officials along with Lanka police rescued the minor girl who was about to get married to a 27-year-old youth, a resident of Barbaha. As per reports, both of them eloped 15 days back and their marriage was scheduled on October 15th, 2019.
“On receiving information, we rushed to the marriage venue along with police and rescued the girl. We have taken the girl to a shelter home in Nagaon and we will file an FIR against the groom identified as Biplab Das,” said Mintu Das, a Childline volunteer.
“We are waiting for the family members of the girl to take her home till then, she will be safe with us in the shelter home,” Das added.
