Tollywood star and recently elected MP from Basirhat, West Bengal, Nusrat Jahan has been trolled massively since the debut day of her career as a parliamentarian. But her response to these trolls has always been a dignified silence.

On the first day of her new job as a Parliamentarian, she along with Mimi Chakraborty, MP from Jadavpur constituency of West Bengal clicked a selfie outside the Parliament and invited trolls where they both were questioned for their choice of outfits. Many questioned, “How could an MP wear western clothes to the Parliament?”

To this aggressive outburst, Nusrat calmly laughed off by saying, “We (MP Mimi Chakraborty) were just excited to be in our new office and clicked a selfie. We didn’t know a disaster will soon follow.”

Following this incident, hatred towards her increased instead of receding when she married her longtime boyfriend Nikhil Jain. She was trolled for wearing sindoor (vermillion) and respecting her religion by many religious leaders.

Many demanded, “How can a Muslim wear sindoor?” To this, she just politely said that “they are my lovers in disguise. They just want my attention and I don’t want women to feel victimized.”

She further said that she doesn’t want both women and men to get trolled. “The new generation knows what’s better,” she added.

Well, many questioned her legitimacy in politics as she doesn’t have a family history in it. She has decided to do one film every year and will religiously dedicate two hours every morning to address complaints from people of her constituency and come up with solutions.

“I am proud that this year maximum number of women registered a victory in the Lok Sabha elections. This is the time of change,” she was quoted saying by media.

Life hasn’t changed much for Jahan. Earlier she used to shoot in Basirhat and nearby rural areas for her films but now the actor visits these parts of the village as their representative.

She says that the journey from being a public figure to a public leader has been welcoming. People used to know her by her name now people call her as ghorer meye (daughter of the house).
