    NE Universities Students’ Fraternity Calls For Shutdown On Jan 22

    The Supreme Court is set to hear petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Citizenship Amendment Act on January 22nd, 2020

    The Northeastern Universities Students’ Fraternity has called for a total shutdown of all the universities and colleges in Northeast India on January 22nd, 2020

    The Supreme Court is set to hear petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on January 22nd, 2020.

    A total number of 75 petitions challenging the CAA has been filed in the apex court. The petitions under consideration include Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s plea challenging the constitutionality of the citizenship law. 

    All Assam Students’ Union, North East Students’ Organisation, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) including the students union of colleges and varsities in Assam and other Northeastern states have been raising their voice against the CAA.

    The Northeastern Universities Students’ Fraternity hopes that the Supreme Court will look into the “unconstitutional and contentious CAA and its repercussions on the indigenous masses of the Northeastern states”.

    The universities supporting the shutdown call include Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, Assam Women’s University, Assam Agricultural University, North Eastern Hill University, Tezpur University, Nagaland University, Rajiv Gandhi University, and North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology.
