Nagaon Police Arrest 6 Dacoits For Looting, Shooting Petrol Pump Manager

The arrested men have confessed that the entire plan was hatched by one Ellias, who is an employee of the said petrol pump

In a major breakthrough, Nagaon Police arrested all the six accused who were involved in the sensational Kathiatoli petrol pump firing case.

On October 10th, 2019, the six armed men looted Rs 2 lakh cash from Raju Jain, the manager of the Kathiatoli petrol pump and also fired at him.  It was around 4:30 pm when the incident occurred.

The manager was walking towards the National Highway to board public transport to deposit daily cash in the bank. Suddenly a gang of six men in three bikes tried to snatch the bag. When the manager resisted, one of the dacoits shot him on his leg and fled with the bag.

A massive manhunt was launched and on the night of October 13th, 2019, the six men were arrested. The police also recovered two bikes, magazine, two rounds of live ammunition and one 7.65 MM pistol from their possession which were used in executing the crime.

Superintendent of police of Nagaon, Shankar Brata Raimedhi told Time8 that the involvement of a petrol pump staff was suspected as the dacoity was well-planned and one of the staffs who always accompanied the manager to deposit the money in the bank did not do so on the fateful day.

Following the leads and as the investigation progressed, Ellias, who is an employee of the said petrol pump broke down and confessed to his crime. Ellias has been taken into custody, the district police chief informed.

Nagaon Police conducted raids in Mohkhuli, Rupohi, Samaguri and several other locations to nab the gang. The accused have been identified as Md Nuruddin (32), Md Omar Faruk (28), Md Suruj Ali (30), Md Sarabat Ali (40), Md Kitab Ali (35) and Md Jogdadul Islam (30).  All the arrested persons hail from Nagaon district of Assam.

“The objective of the plan was to loot money. But as the manager resisted and caught hold of the dacoits, they fired on his leg and hit him on his head with the pistol butt. Through interrogation is on,” Raimedhi added.
