    Nagaland Vehicle Fined A Whopping Rs 86,500 In Odisha

    The truck driver Ashok Jadav was fined on September 3rd, 2019 but the incident came to the limelight only on Saturday after the picture of the challan went viral on social media platforms

    A goods vehicle belonging to a Nagaland based private company was recently fined with a whopping Rs 86,500 for violating several traffic rules in Odisha’s Sambalpur district. The fine is reported to have become the single highest violation under the recently amended Motor Vehicles Act.

    As per media reports, although the truck driver Ashok Jadav was fined on September 3rd, 2019 by the traffic police, the incident came to the limelight only on September 7th, 2019 after the picture of the challan went viral on social media platforms.

    The vehicle was travelling from Talcher area—an industrial hub of Odisha towards Chhattishgarh when it was intercepted by officials near Sambalpur.

    The driver was reportedly penalised for violating a series of traffic norms which includes allowing an unauthorised person to drive (Rs 5,000), driving without a licence (Rs 5,000), overloading with an excess of 18 tonne (Rs 56,000), carrying over dimension projections (Rs 20,000) and general offence (Rs 500) amounting to Rs 86,500.

    Reports stated that the the driver paid Rs 70,000 after negotiations with the authorities.
