Guwahati: The Golghat district unit of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), apex students’ union of the Mising community, on Monday, banned state’s agriculture minister Atul Bora from entering in his own constituency, allegedly for ordering his security men to physically abuse two members of the district union.
Minister Bora represents Bokakhat assembly constituency located in Upper Assam’s Golghat district.
TMPK Golaghat district president Prasen Loying said, “Minister Bora ordered his security personnel to manhandle two of our district unit members – Abinash Pathori and Bhabesh Pegu, on June 6. Apparently, the Minister’s security personnel physically abused both Abinash and Oinitom right in front of the Minister. Both Abhinash and Bhabesh received severe injuries. Their only faults were, they highlighted various problems faced by the flood-affected people.”
Loying stressed that the people of the constituency have been demanding Minister and local MLA Bora to visit and assess the damages and sufferings caused by the flood. “We also tried a lot to establish contact with the Minister to highlight our problems. However, all we got was a constant denial and distance,” Loying said.
According to the union leader, Minister Bora made a sudden visit at Disoi Panchayat on June 6, one of the severely flood-affected areas of the constituency to distribute relief materials. “Knowing his visit, two of our delegates – Abinash and Bhabesh reached the spot and tried to highlight the problems caused by flood. However, the minister ordered his security men to manhandle the delegates out of no point,” Loying added.
The union strongly condemned the violence allegedly created by the Minister and accordingly banned his visiting in the constituency, particularly in the Mising community dominated areas.
The union also submitted a representation to the Speaker of the Assam State Assembly on Monday demanding immediate disqualification of Minister Bora from the house.
