Two more positive novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have been reported in Meghalaya, taking the State tally to nine.
Both the infected patients are the family members of the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state who died on April 15th, 2020
“Two more cases have tested positive. Both are family members of the first patient,” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in a tweet.
A 69-year-old veteran doctor, the first patient of the state, was tested positive for COVID-19 on April 13th, 2020 and died in the wee hours of April 15th, 2020. He was the owner of Shillong’s Bethany Hospital.
Five family members and a helper of the first patient were tested positive for COVID-19 on April 15th, 2020.
“We have collected 552 samples so far out of which 306 results are declared. We have 9 positive cases (including the deceased individual) and 299 have been tested negative. We currently await 246 test results,” Sangma said.
Sangma added, “The State Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that we are able to tackle the situation. There are challenges but what is important is to be able to rectify and improve on the different shortcomings and challenges that we face.”
The Meghalaya Chief Minister also mentioned that 29,084 PPEs are in stock now. “10,000 has reached Guwahati and 15,000 on air. In the next 24 hours, we should have 50,000 PPE,” he said.
A total of 50 positive cases for COVID-19 have been reported in the Northeastern region – 34 from Assam, 9 from Meghalaya, two each from Manipur and Tripura and one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland. Sikkim is coronavirus-free so far.
