Meghalaya on April 18th, 2020 reported two new positive cases for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the state tally to 11, including the first coronavirus patient in the state who died on April 15th, 2020.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter to confirm the news. Sangma informed that one of the infected patients is a family member and the other is a helper of the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state.
“Two more positive cases detected taking the total to 10 active cases in the State. Both cases are from the house of the first patient one is family and other a helper in the house,” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma posted on Twitter.
The first COVID-19 patient of Meghalaya was a 69-year-old veteran doctor of a Shillong-based hospital. He was tested positive for coronavirus on April 13th, 2020 and died on April 15th.
Meghalaya has registered 10 new positive active COVID019 cases in the last four days. Out of the 10 active cases, eight people are the family members and two are helpers of the first COVID-19 patient.
Sangma said a total of 617 samples have been tested so far. Out of 617, 541 samples have tested negative and 65 results are awaited.
“Close to 30,000 PPEs are in stock right now. The government is receiving another 20,000 PPEs soo, which will add upto 50,000 PPEs,” the Chief Minister said.
He informed that the government has been allocated 4000 rapid test kits, and at the same time through different companies, the State government is also souring rapid test kits.
“25 new ambulances have been ordered with life support facilities. We expect to receive them in about four days time. These 25 new ambulances are being funded by the CMRF contribution, which all of you have made at different levels,” said Sangma.
He said that Rs 5.50 crore has been received in the CMRF and the funds will be invested in Corona Care Centres and other infrastructure requirements.
Sangma informed that the government has decided to open grocery shops and essential commodities for four days in a week i.e Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm.
“This is being done to ensure that there is more timing given to the people so that they can buy without having to crowd,” the Chief Minister added. The wholesale will be open for three days in a week i.e Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
